Could it be my fuel pump? or what?

i have a 97 f150,with around 145,000 miles. Today i was driving up too my girl freands house it's about a 30 min. drive. And on the way up there it did not seem too have as much power as normal but i did not think anything about it. but then when i turn on too her street it died, i was lucky her house is the first one, so i just rolled out in frount of her house. But then i tryed too start it and it turns over fine and will start but then shut right off, i can kinda get it too run when i reve it up some. but it wont run long be for it dies. it sounds and acts like it is runing out of gas but it has 3/4 of a tank....thanks for and help....where should i start

Always do the cheap and easy first. Do the fuel filter. Check the fuse for the fuel filter too. It does sound like a fuel injection problem.

Lets see.... two more things. My mom's sport trac would do this all the time. I still change her fuel filter like every 10K miles though.... anyways, hit the fuel pump reset button. There should be a small box behind the passenger side kickpanel. On top is a button that is the fuel reset button, press it hard. (Double check the manual, I've never had to actually do this on an f150, so I can't be sure that is the location)

Fuel injector cleaner won't hurt either, but you gotta keep on the gas to work it in.
So try all of this first, it's about 15 bucks, and up to an hour of time. Past that, I couldn't imagine any problems short of the fuel injectors or fuel pump.

Hey!

I said it because it happened to me once: truck died going down hill because I had few gas, I shaked the truck badly and my problem went away. Anyways I think you need a new pump, just dont jerk around like I used to.

Suerte amigo!

Might want to ck. the IAC valve befor going through all the trouble of dropping the tank.
From what you stated in your post..... it sounds like it's only stalling at throttle closed conditions.
If engine runs at part throttle then it's probably not the pump.
This happened to me on my 98 5.0 Explorer.
Just my .02

Mine had some of the same problems. It would start and run for about a 1/2 mile then it would die. I had just replaced the fuel pump in the tank because the sending unit on the old one was bad. I finally decided it was the fuel pump so i put the old one back in and it was fine.

Btw the second time i replaced it it only took me about 30 mins start to finish. I took jackstands and put under the tank and then loosened the two nuts and removed the straps. Then i lifted the tank up and had someone lower the stands until i got it to the ground. there is two hoses, an electrical connection, and the filler hose to disconnect and its out. There is a locking ring that you spin and pull the pump out.

once LMC sends me a new sending unit/pump I can probally replace it with my eyes closed.

I don't know about your 97 F-150.....but on my Explorer it's up right next to the throttle body on the intake plenum.
It's about the size of a roll of quarters with two small ears on one end to fasten it to the intake.
