Overdrive Problem

Overdrive Problem

Hello there.
i had just recentley bought my truck (1998 f150 4.6l 4x4 off road) and the overdrive will not activate . i did check the fuse and nothing. any body else have this problem and a possible solution?
any advice would be great

not sure what's going on there, but my o/d light was blinking, check all your fuses and make sure that the speed contol recall has been done. My master cylinder speed control switch was wet and shorting out the fuse. hope it's nothing major.

My advice is to post this in the transmission forum. You will then be getting the eye of those in the know.
Also, what do you mean by "will not activate"? Does it just go into neutral or does the OD light stay on and it stays in 3rd?

well when i push the button nothing happens at all. i dont evan get a light. but the truck continues to run fine.thanks for the advice ill try the transmission room

The wiring in the shift lever is probably broken. It most commonly chafes and breaks at the point where the wiring passes through the shifter lever.

No.

It is simply a switch the runs from the shift lever on the column to the PCM where it serves as a signal input.

Everything else is computer controlled.
