300 six..low end torque!

While I've only owned my 93 F150 XL a few weeks I have gotten to know it quite well. It has 192K and runs as new!

Upon my first drive I delt, thought, this thing needs it's bowden cable adjusted to shift at higher rpm, but after reading this forum and the 300 six forum I have come to realize this 300 six is a true low rpm torque power plant!

It has incredible power after it slips into 3ed (auto) gets right up to 50 mph fast, yet the engine seems like it's lugging! Not true....These engines are slow turning lugs that produce their power at low rpm...

They didn't put a tachometer in these trucks so I'm not aware of actual rpms, but as a marine mechanic and marine surveyor, I have run all Detroit's, 12-92-71, 8-92-71 6-92-71-53 and Ford 120-140 Lemans, Cat, Cummins, Yanmar, Volvo, Perkins, 170, 225, 318-B 318-A Chrysler, Mercedes, etc......................Currently I'm working on Cummins 660 HP and 900 Hp diesel engines............The 300 Ford Six is now my toy and I'm having fun with it as I consider this as a significant and extremely wonderful engine...........

It is a grunt engine.
Can't breath to far up the scale.
A 5L v8 can be made to do the same with reduced cam durations.
I have raced old time ohv Chev sixes against the flathead Fords and outpulled them off the turns every lap, in dirt racing.
Have fun with you toy..

I am familiar with the AFBA and a follower of BG for almost 30 years.

I am planning to see the Seldom Scene play, plus a few others in New Bedford soon..... Check this link... http://tickets.zeiterion.org/eventcategory.asp?c=64

Nice Theatre layout.
We have one like that in Easton called the STATE, that puts on all kinds of high end shows but never had BG yet.
We are a small assoc and can't pass enough cash to afford Ricky or Ralph any longer, but some of the others listed have played our festivals in the last few years.
