Question Serpentine Belt Help

Hello all,

I decided to change the surpentine belt on my 97 f150 (4.6l with AC). Purchased a gatorback belt and a 1/2 inch breaker bar and was all set to get it done. However, I couldn't get the breaker bar into the opening without doing some possible damage to the fan blades.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. thanks

You can, but you have to be creative. You you have metal or plastic blades? I have metal blades and I just put the bar between two blades.

I just use a big honkin box end wrench.

Or do it with the breaker bar from underneath. You will need someone to slip belt on while you hold the tensioner over. I do it this way using a long 1/2" driver ratchet.

I also did mine from underneath. Used a ratcheting strap to hold it in place and then worked on it from above. Was very simple with no problems.
