Somebody please help me, truck illiterate.

I am in the market to buy a new truck. I have no idea what I am looking for. What is the difference between an F-150 or F-250 or F-350 for Ford. What about Dodge Ram 1500, 2500, 3500.
Can someone explain to me what these #'s mean. Also what is the best style package.

Well, quite simply.
F-150 is a half ton
F-250 is a three quarter ton
F-350 is a one ton
I'm pretty certain that applies to the Dodge models as well. However, I highly recommend you drive a Ford vs. Dodge and the decision should be pretty easy.

Unless you are doing some major towing or hauling large loads a half ton p/u will do most any job you need out of it.

Okay, Lets Try To Knock This Out Early. As wresleu Said, The F-150/Half Ton Pickup Should Do Fine For Most Any Job you need, unless you're doing some heavy towing or need a huge payload capacity. (Lots Of Weight In Bed)

Now, For What Make You're Deciding On Buying, I Went And Screen Shotted Some Consumer Report Verdicts Online. (I Would Have Just Linked you, But You Have To Have A Paid Account)

Here is FORD:

Here is CHEVY:

Here is DODGE:
