Is it bad to get the RPMs to 5000?

I was on a desolte stretch of road so I floored it...the RPMS got up to 5000 hitting 85 and the auto trans finally shifted...is this normal to not shift for such a long stretch? Can that damage your engine or tranny? The thing sounded sweet, but I dont plan to try that again.

Nah, it'll be alright. Just don't sit there and like, hold a gear while bouncing it off the limiter or something.

It'll be fine. Just don't make a habit of doing it. They do sound good when you floor them and the G-forces start to push you into the seat.

Bounce of the rev limiter in the 97 everyonce in awhile

Course it's a stick, not sure what the autos would like that.

u have the 5.4 or 4.6? I have a 5.4 and I always bring her up to teh redline, with regular oil changes and maintainence, it should be fine. man that 5.4 is fun to rev, thinkin about puttin in some headers and a flowmaster exhaust to make it sound..um i mean perform better!
