PO460 code problem

A few days ago my cel came on and the code is PO460. I found a post that said to check the resistance of the sending unit, but if my fuel gauge works fine, doesnt it mean that the sending unit is OK. Anything else i can check??? Thanks in advance.

PS. the cel came on just a day or two after i had a car starter installed. I noticed that the guy spliced one of the starter wires into one of the fuel injector wires. (its so that the starter knows that the truck is running). I thought that might be the problem so i took that wire off and hooked it up to one of the alternator wires, and cleared the codes, but the cel still came on.

Stay cool now, but why are we putting non standard parts on the truck and doing illegal hookups like that?
Can't tell if the code is related to the starter deal at this time.
What else might have been done???

nothing else was done, just the starter installed and i dont understand what you mean by illegal hookups..????? Personally i dont think that the starter was the problem since i have disconnected the one wire that was hooked up to the fuel injectors, and the cel still come on.

Well you said "car starter" and hooking up to fuel injector harness.
Is that what was actually done?
I'm referring to why the job was not a standard replacment of the starter with like for like.
There is no splicing to do that.

I'm talking about installing an automatic car starter so i can start the truck from inside the house. Not an actual starter that cranks the engine over.
ANY help!?!?

The P0460 and the remote starter installion hookup are unrelated.

The P0460 refers to an electrical failure (out of tolerance test reading) of the fuel tank level circuit.

You really need the factory service procedure to properly diagnose it effectively.

Well its been almost 2 years and i havent fixed the problem because my fuel gause works fine and the cell would only come on for a few days and the it would be ok for a few months and it didnt bother me that much, but now i bought a new f-150 and have to sell my old one. I have a buyer for it, but i have a conditional sale with him....so i have to fix the cell problem with reference to P0460. What do i have to do to diagnose the problem in the sending unit??? Is there a procedure that has to be performed? I'm guessing i have to take the fuel tank off to get the sending unit out of the tank. Is that correct? Thanks, BART
BTW its a 2001 f-150 V6
