Can anyone identify this?
This is what the guy I bought it from put on it. He had a Fram air filter on it, which I replaced with a K&N. Since the change, whenever I get on the throttle, it whistles like a damn turbo. Is that normal, and can anyone identify this intake? Is it homemade, an el cheapy, or what? There are no identifying marks on it anywhere.

There is no spacer beneath the throttle body and intake manifold (I've had it off to clean the EGR). There is one between the intake and the throttle body. It id not leaking b/c I did the EGR cleaning b/f swapping air filters. The whistling doesn't bother me, I just wondered if it was normal.
Just make sure everything is tight but for the most part its the new filter. Dont worry its not causing any harm to your motor, it just that your motors getting more air and is breathing easier.I have a intake and throttle body and I can hear it whistle doing 70mphs over my exhuast and 33" mudterrains.
It may be b/c there is no resinator box. It's a rectangular plastic box which goes in between the intake tube and the IAC. The K&N instructions say to keep it (it's on the stock setup) on the 4.6. You can see where it would go in your pic. There are 2 small hoses exiting the intake just before the throttle body, it should be patched into the top one. That being said that intake should still be louder than stock, the resinator box is only to stop a certain high pitch whine, and I can't see any damage to your engine either way.
It looks like a mandrel bent 3" or 4" aluminized pipe is all...... Then the stock air filter housing was adapted to it... Same basic idea as the $300 FIPK setups on the market... Those usually will have the filter element exposed under the hood, but I'll bet your setup is still attached to the fender, so it's getting 'cold' air from outside.
The stock setup would have a larger, flatter section on the bend and that's where a 'silencer' is housed to quiet the whistling effect. Some guys remove this silencer from the stock setup for increased air volume and get more 'noise' out of it as well.
What you are hearing is 'normal' in the sense because you have no silencer...
Actually, that setup looks pretty good compared to some of the other 'hack' jobs I've seen pics of..... I've seen one that had bailing cord and panty hose involved!! Now, that was a scary looking setup!!

Yeah, I thought about cutting more of the filter housing from around the filter, but I then again I like the idea that the filter is not completely exposed on a truck that does see mud. Thanks for info, everyone.
It looks like the Icemaan that i got on mine ,except the Iceman is made out of plastic. That looks like a good intake and should work well just check all fittings for leaks and the two hoses coming out the right side at both ends good luck.
