newbie engine ID ?
GF just got an 06 F150 XLT Supercrew - window sticker says 5.4L, driver side fender plate says 5.4L - but, sure looks like the Windsor 4.6 in my 04 F150 STX, the emissions sticker says 4.6L group, ID sticker on the engine says 46L Windsor - is this because of the modular design of the engine and she does have the 5.4? How to tell for sure?
Help a brother out - is hers bigger than mine????

So are you saying the engine sticker on her truck says 46L windsor?
If she has a 5.4L it should have 5.4L written on the sticker.
And if she ordered a 5.4 and got the 4.6, I'd be headed back to the dealership

Well, actually there is a simple way to tell (and safer too) but, I couldn't think of the right words to explain it.
I'll try.....
Bobber05, tell your girlfriend you want to look at her pumpkin.
Then go behind her, bend over and look at it real good.
If her pumpkin is round (like yours) then she indeed has a 4.6L.
If her pumpkin is larger than yours and kind of 'not round' shaped, this is an indication that the 5.4L is present.
This works for all trucks '97 and up.
The round pumpkin indicates a V6 or 4.6L.
If you want to share some pictures of your girlfriends pumpkin here for all of us to see then I'm sure you'd get lots of help with this problem.
(see, that's why I said just race her, the other way don't come out right) :o

Hey, the good news is if she actually has the 4.6L rather the 5.4L listed on the window sticker,
then the dealership owes your girlfriend $895
then the dealership owes your girlfriend $895

It is very unlikely that the truck left the dealership with the wrong engine !!!
There are a series of checks to follow, before the truck even hits the lot.
The 4.6L and the 5.4L are two different psychically Looking engines. On the 5.4L, the air cleaner is mounted right on top of the engine, and has a square type filter. Unlike the 4.6L which is still using the round type looking filter.

Gents, many thanks for the learned replies - I have learned two valuable lessons from this:
1. Never ever tell the GF she has less under the hood than advertised.
2. Never ask to see her pumpkin so you can prove you're right.
Turns out I was right, its a 4.6, despite the 5.4L on the port side fender badge (but not on the starboard!?) and despite what her salesman said. She did not pay an $895 upcharge either, dammitall - for that kinda refund she wouldn't have minded me being right.....

Oh yeah?
They may have not charged her $895 as an additional line item however,
if a Supercrew XLT window sticker had 5.4L listed
then the $895 was a figure in the MSRP.
The XLT standard engine is the 4.6L
Even if she got discounts, rebates, invoice pricing, whatever,
the starting number was the MSRP and the MSRP would be bogus if the window sticker states 5.4L.
If the salesman said 5.4L
and the window sticker said 5.4L
and the side of the truck (at least one side) said 5.4L...
....and the truck I left there with has a 4.6L......
the dealership would be putting $895 in my hand tomorrow,
no diggity, no doubt.
It is an incredible mistake and it is their mistake and she should take full advantage of it.
This is how she should do it.
Park the truck so that the 5.4L emblem faces the dealership.
Have the Window sticker in hand.
Find the salesman say, Remember me? You sold me this F150 with the 5.4L V8?"
The salesman will lie and say,"Sure, I remember you."
Girlfriend says, "Get your sales manager out here now."
Bring them both outside, where they can see them emblem.
Show them the window sticker.
Say, I bought this F150 from you with the 5.4L V8.
And I want to know what you are trying to pull.
Did you think you could get away with this because I was a woman?
Then pop the hood....
