oil pressure issue

My buddies 2000 Expedition with the 5.4L is having an Oil Pressure issue. First start in the morning oil pressure very low, in the red. The low oil light is on. After about five mins the oil pressure is ok. There is plenty of oil in the engine. Outside temp only about 25 F.
Any ideas?

First thing it to either change the sender or actually test the pressure, then the mistery will be solved by the results.

Sounds like a sending unit issue Ford had some problems with this, had to replace one in my boy's Sporttrack same issue, fine after warm up. replaced it and never had an issue cheap and easy fix.

Senders drop like flies in some '00ish 5.4 liters, although for some reason IME I've seen it most commonly on Expygators. I'd verify good pressure with a mechanical gauge, and if that's okay, throw a sender on it.
