Lightning into 4x4

I am picking up a lightning engine and tranny with all the harnesses and other stuff. It will be going into a 98 4x4 that presently has a 4.6 with the Mazda 5 speed crap box tranny. Does anyone know what exactly I have to do to mate the 4r100 tranny to my transfer case? Is it necessery to find a 4r100 that was fitted to a 4x4 and switch parts? I know it would be cheaper to do this or do that, but come hell or high water, that engine is going into my truck, so if you know exactly what needs done I would like to hear it.
Thanks, Mark

I dont know what tranny the Lightnig used but I know it wont work because it is for a 4x2. You will need a 4x4 tranny. I dont think the one you have in your 98 will bolt up to the 5.4. You may just have to change bellhousings. If it was me I would get the motor, tranny out of a similar year that has the 5.4, then put a supercharger on it. That may be a little easier & less of a headache instead of trying to find differnt tranny, adapter plates, etc. Just my .02

Theres no difference in the trannies between the 4x4 and 4x2 trucks. The only problem he might run into is whether or not the Xfer case will mate up with his tranny, since he was using a manual before. But I dont know if the xfer case is different based on the transmissions. Someone else will have to chime in there...

Also, consider what kind of problems you will run into going from the manual to an AOD tranny. You're going to have to get the computer changed or get a tuner to take care of that. You've got issues with the shifter. SO you have some work cut out for you there.
