Steering Pump

How can I drain the steering pump/system on my '01 F150? All I have done in the past is suction fluid out of reservoir using a turkey baster. Is there a particular line/fitting that I can loosen or remove to drain the system? Thanks,

Disconnect the rubber hose going to the power steering pump, it has a spring type compression clamp on it, this will drain the reservoir and most of the fluid from the pump, whatever's left can be drained by disconnecting the pressure line at the pump, but I wouldn't recommend messing with that unless you're replacing the pump.

Post Flushing The P/S System

Remove the non-high pressure hose from the rear of the P/S pump and plug the pump canister with a hose with a bolt in it or a suitable plastic plug. The non-high pressure hose will attached to the pump with a hose and hose clamp. The other hose is the high pressure and has a swedged fitting type hose that has a threaded in type coupler (do not remove the high pressure hose).

Drop the non-high pressure hose that you disconnected from the pump in a bucket or suitable container. Have somone start the engine and simontaneously pour fresh fluid into the canister. This will completely flush the steering (hydraulic system). When you see bright clean fluid going into the bucket or container; you know the system has been completely flushed.
