Engine missfire after changing plugs.

I have a 2000 F150 Lariat with 5.4 and 4x4. Last Friday night the truck started to miss badly and I could smell fuel coming out the exhaust, changed all the plugs and boots, started the truck and it ran with a hint of a miss, miss got more noticeable, but was intermitten, (not constant). Any ideas as to what might causing this? I have to solve this before I go and the emission test.
