preping for mr. winter
is there anything that is a necessity in checking before winter? that i can check myself, with minor automotive knowledge, i got new wiper blades, plenty of windshield washer fluid, um but anything else really?
p.s. just from owning this truck i have learned a decent amount about automotive stuff in general but what can i do to learn more about it, especially my truck , all feedback will be greatly appeciated, thanks a lot everyone

Personally, I like to prepare before the cold hits. Here are a few things I do before winter:
Check tire pressure
Replace wipers if more than 6 months old
Carry a lot of wiper fluid
Check antifreeze-use Hydrometer if any doubt
Check hoses and belts-cold weather is hell on rubber
Check battery-batteries also don't like cold weather
-I also carry a tow strap and jumper cables for myself or others-
Throw some sand in the back. I've got 4wd but the weight helps with stopping and starting in 2wd.
Some of this may be overkill but I'd rather do it now than when it's 0 degrees outside.
If you have less than 50,000 miles I'd skip the antifreeze and rubber components, they should be fine. But it couldn't hurt if you're ****.
Also, light bulbs don't fair well in the winter. Make sure to check your brake lights. I always find a store with glass front windows, back up to it and you can see if all your brake lights are working.
Good luck and stay warm.....

I would change the Antifreeze. Depending on when it was built your truck is at least 2 years old. It is highly recommended to change after 2 yrs regardless of milage. You could go to one of those places that offer a winter check up for a fee and ask them what they do and then go home and do it yourself.

windshield fluid used to contain quite a bit of methanol to prevent freezing and/or help melt the ice on your windshield. the companies that make it have finally realized that it is cheaper just to give you blue colored water with a tiny bit of methanol in it. I pour Heet gasline antifreeze (methanol) in with it to give it a boost, works way better.

when it starts to get colder and stay colder out check ur tire pressure! otherwise check the condition of your anti freeze... not to step on any feet but if it aint broke ( bad) dont fix it. u can buy little strips that you dip in and it changes colors... it measures freeze point and corrision protection. windsheid washer fluid i buy the yellow kind that goes to like 50 below or something and a blue one ... then i take an old jung and pour a 50-50 mix... works pretty good and its like getting 2 bottlesfor the price of one! the yellow is more $$ then blue. by the way i live up in northern mn where we usually see -40 to -50 a couple times a year.. yes thats with out windchill.
This is mostly a repeat but I'll say it anyway. Definately change the wiper blades to a good quality blade, not some cheap refills. I also make sure that the wiper arms are good, many people forget that the springs in the wiper arms are what keep the blade on the window. On the topic of washer fluid, I use rain-x de-icer washer fluid, it is a great bonus on a cold morning with frost or ice on the window to be able to clear the window quickly without standing out in the cold with an ice scraper, and the rain-x helps you need the wipers less. Again check the hoses, belt, battery, and antifreeze. Most of all I let my truck warmup prior to taking off down the road, hence the remote start....
... it also helps with the ice.

Dude I feel you on that one. I bike around 5-6 miles in the morning and sometimes in december when it dips below 60 I stay in bed cause its way to cold haha. Here is a thread I started about the cold https://www.f150online.com/forums/ge...ives-cold.html
As far as truck prepping. I don't do a damn thing. Nothing is needed!
