F-150 sputtering

I have a 2001 F-150 4.6 Tritin V-8 with almost 80,000 miles. This morning while driving to work my truck was sputtering or missing between 40MPH @ 1000 RPM, and 50RPM @ 1300 RPM. Inbetween these 2 speeds if I were to just barely push down on the gas I will notice that the whole truck starts to shake especially in the rear of the truck. (Atleast I think it is comming from there). I have had my fuel pump replaced about a year ago. could this be the problem. I am not very savy with trucks I just know how to drive them. Could anyone please help me with this problem. It has even starting doing this when I start from a stop.Any information will be fine. Fortunately I still have a warrenty. Any information I can give to FORD will be grateful.

thanks

Any codes

Has the service engine light come on? Have you washed your motor recently?
does it clear out at higher speeds?

1. Pull the computer codes. Not everyone sets the check engine light, so have em pulled for free at autozone/advanced/pepboys to see whats going on.

2. Prolly due for plugs, wires, fuel filter, and an injector cleaning.

My check engine light is not on. But I discussed the problem with a fellow co-worker also a ford man and he said with the milage and such maybe it is time to get my U-Joints checked out. Should this be done.

Hey Chaves small world, I just had the EXACT same thing going on with my truck also a 2001 with a 5.4 and 80,000 miles.

Changed the sparkplugs which really didn't look that bad and now no more kicking and bucking!

My 01 screw 74K is doing the same thing. I Superchiped the truck (Thanks Superchips) & ran the DTS Reader, code P0305: Fault Cylinder F Misfire detected - Cylinder 5. I think I will invest in a new plug

What is a coil pack??

Hello yall, I got information back from ford and they said that I have a #6 cylinder misfireing. Also they suggested a 30,000 mile maintainence transmission flush, radiator flush, new fuel filter, a Tune-up, Fuel induction service package which consists of a 3 part system that will clean out the cylinders and such which will gain horsepower "
has anybody heard of this" also tire rotation, and an oil change, plus various other small things for a grand total of $910.00. nOW tell me is that to much or not. My truck has never had a transmission flush, radiator flush, or a tune-up since I bought it. I Should I get all this stuff down and pay the money or go to a local body shop in town. That is some tall cash for maintainence. I still have a ESP warrenty until 100,000 miles.

Coil packs 2 you need to move some things around but it's not hard, three I would say is easier, and you should knock that out in a few minutes I'd say 45 minutes for both, and that's including a 15 minute break to answer your phone.... Now, remember that although these coil packs do go out....I've had the pleasure of having a cracked spark plug too which also causes it to missfire....so check them both. (those coil packs go out a lot though) 50 bucks at Autozone.

Seems steep when you consider that you can do them one at a time and some yourself and save you a one lump payment, unless ofcourse cashflow is not a problem for you. I'd get #6 working (I'd do it myself) coil, pack, plug etc. I personally have not heard of it, it sounds like a bunch of things you really don't need to make it look like a really big packet. Let's see what others say......by all means I'm not saying you should not do your transmission or other maintance, I'm just saying your tran is not going to die if you do it at 40K which would allow you to do one or two things at a time...

Good news fella's I just recieved a quote from a local body shop in town. and boy was the price different. Ford quoted me $910.00 for the above mentioned. The body shop in town Including the differential fluids changed is going to be around 350.00 that is a savings of more that $500.00. I know this body shop is reputable because he used to work for ford as a mechanic now he owns his own business. Ford quoted me around 400.00 for the differential fluids changed and varius things regarding this topic. The grand total if I would of done everyting was going to be $1,300.00 and I'm getting everything for around 350-400.00 .

this is what the $910.00 included. Minus Differential Maintainence. see below.
