Power Steering Losing Fluid and Engine Coolant Problem

Hello everybody,

I a couple of issues with my truck that I would like to ask for you help on.

I have a 95 150 302V8 4x4 XLT Ext. Cab 87000 Miles.

My truck is constantly losing power steering oil fluid daily. I have to use at least 1/4 of a bottle 2 times a day. I have used 2 bottles of Lucas, no dice. There seems to be a leak coming from where the shaft connects to the tie-rods. I have read that there could be a $1.50 gasket or ring that went bad. The pump, when there is fluid, runs as would appear normal and does not whine. It will wine when out of fluid, of course. Suggestions?

Next, I have to keep putting in engine coolant (anti-freeze). I smell, when outside of the truck something hot and almost sweet and burning, thus I figured I have a leak in the coolant. Everything looks fine, but check this out. I originally discovered my truck needed PS fluid when I turned it on and it whined very loud. When I popped my hood, there was what seemed to be a large explosion of green and pink stuff. It is all over the distributor cap, the block, everywhere. It really sprayed around I will have to take a picture. So I assumed something busted or a tube split or rotted. However, I didn't hear any noises to indicate a burst and everything looks healthy from inspecting. And it hasn't sprayed anymore since. I do have to keep filling it. However, when parked, there are no green puddles. It is as if the damn fluid evaporates.

I appreciate any and all help.

i'm guessing here but it sounds to me like you have a bad steering box seal as far as the p/s fluid situation goes

the antifreeze issue is confusing

get a pressure tester from autozone or wherever and pressurize the system when its cold...

you will see where the problem lies then

Thanks for the reply. Approimately how much is that seal and do you think it would take a lot of time to replace. I will take this to get a pressure test. Thank you again.

Strange, I get that PS fluid leak too. Although after I put a bottle of stop leak through it, it's only leaking at about half the rate it was.
