Helpful or Hoax?

I have a 99F150 4x4 with the 5.4. No problem with the truck but it now has over 100,000 miles on it. I thought since I have to take it in for the cruise control recall anyway I would go ahead and have them change the plugs. The service rep recommended having the emissions system checked for carbon and blown out if necessary. This will help with gas mileage he said.

I’m all for more gas mileage but mainly interested in preventive maintenance to keep the truck on the road. Is this carbon check helpful? They want $90.00 to perform this service

I haven't heard of that service.

Do they have the parts in your area for the Cruise recall?
They just wanted to unhook me for now until parts were available and I said hell no.

If you take it to them, and then tell them no to unhooking it, you've accepted the responsibility for it if it burns to the ground. There is no turning back once you have seen the dealer. I had mine unplugged at noted over a month ago, and the parts still aren't available to me. (they are however, available to those with "leaky" sensors.)

And that service, its BS if you don't have a CEL light for EGR flow. They are just using the recall comebacks to upsell and make money, I know they told me.

Raoul - I assume they have the parts at this dealer. When I called to schedule the appointment he said there was no need. Just bring it by when I have 20 minutes and they would take care of it.

98Navi - That's kinda what I was thinking. I had not heard of a carbon clean-out before and just wanted to check to see if anyone else had. Thanks

Well the actual wording of the recall is a two step process.
1- Bring truck in for disconnect
2- Will contact for hookup upon availibilty of parts.

Parts are suppossed to start becoming available "sometime in November"

If having cruise or not for an unspecified time is a non-issue then that's ok for you, otherwise you should get clarification of his meaning of, "20 minutes and they would take care of it".

I don't plan to rush in for a disconnect and be sitting around in 2007 waiting for the phone to ring.

I could end up with the only F150 with CC come resale time, which could be quite a selling point.

The parts are already available, they are only installing them currently on vehicles with leaky sensors. I just talked to my dealer today. Two weeks from now, the parts will be available for all recall corrections.

Obviously, you've never gambled. When the odds are that and you want to win something, then yeah, it'll not likely happen. When the odds are something you don't want, chances are 99% better that they will happen. JUst ask the guy on here who's truck, van, and house burned to the ground.

Raoul -

You were right, I called the dealer back and their just wanting to disconnect it. Parts should be in around 3-4 weeks he said. Since it's so close and only takes 10 minutes I'm going to go ahead and get it done. I'll go ahead and get the plugs done too, but hold off on the carbon check.

Thanks,
