overdrive

Not sure if this is the correct forum and this may be a stupid question, but anyway, I recently purchased a 2005 F150. Most of the miles I will put on it will be around town, and I was wondering if I should drive around with the overdrive on or off, or if it makes any difference. Thanks in advance.

Generally you dont need to worry about that unless you are towing.

If you are driving through town and the truck keeps shifting in and out of OD, then turn it off. Otherwise just leave it on.

Turn the overdrive OFF. This will eliminate the transmission from
constant shifting looking for torque.

A side benefit, would be some compression braking and longer brake
pad life.

I managed to put 175,000 miles on a F-250, without a brake job,
using this technique.
