Even without knowing the specifics on your engine, I'd suspect a load test on your battery would prove worthwhile. In my experience, with everything else working, and nothing has been changed, it's the battery. Yours are classic symptoms of a battery. It doesn't take a whole lot of amperage to run buzzers and lights, but it uses a ton of em to turn a starter. If infact, nothing has been done recently to the engine and/or wiring, most autoparts stores will test a battery for you for free. As a side note, loose or corroded battery connections will give the same symptoms. Inspect wires and connections, and then pull your battery and get it tested. Just my 2 cents.....

It has 6 cylinder 4.9L engine. Had no trouble starting before this happened.

have had similar problem w my 97 4.6,check the connection on starter motor at selonoid,4.6has red wire with blk clip on end,it corrodes. Clean and try to increase pressure onto male end of selonoid by tightening clip if you can,I have to do mine 2-3 times a year.Crap design, windstar used to do same thing

Is it a manual transmission? Could be the safety switch on the clutch.

Yours are classic symptoms of a battery.
I agree, check the battery, get a jump see if it starts then.
