Hypothetical Situatuation:

Customer walks into Reputable Retailer A.

Customer " I would like to get better fuel mileage cause my F150 Screw is killing me on Fuel. I seen an ad for (Insert gimmick here) for only 79.95, So I think that for $80 I'll try it"

Retailer A: " Oh man, sorry dude but we dont even sell that here cause it's crap!

Customer walks out thinking "What an *** he was for thinking he knows better than I. I'll show him, I'll bring my business elswhere"

Customer walks into Retailer B and notices a big flashy display on the counter for a (Insert gimmick here).

Customer says "Hey look at that, I was just looking around for something like that, tell me do they really work?"

Retailer B: " Oh yeah man, all of us here got one on our cars now, you should see the difference man, I'm paying half in gas now that what I used to. I'ts very easy to install and the increase in power is very nice too. It'll pay for itsef in less than a month. You should try it buddy."

Customer walks out with (Insert gimmick here) in his hands

Customer drives around for a month.

here there are 2 posibilities:

Customer split 1 thinks "Dammit, I paid $80 for that POS and my mileage is worse than it was" Customer goes back to retailer A with tail between legs, never mentions anything about (Insert gimmick here) and asks retailer A "How do I get more horspower and better fuel mileage in my truck"

Retailer A says:"Well that is a question with many answers and they all cost alot. You should read up about them on this great web site I know about. You'll get many answers to your questions there from people that actually tried them."

Customer split 1 thinks" Wow, that guy really does know his stuff. I have some big decisions to make if I want to mod my truck"
____________

Customer Split 2: if he thinks at all, is thinking: "Hum, that can't be right. Maybe I didn't put it in right, or maybe it's too cold/hot out for it's optimum performance."

1 year later:

Customer Split 2 selling his truck saying to potential buyer: "Oh yeah man, I moded my truck myself and put in a (Insert gimmick here) and now on a good day I can get 26 mpg on this beautiful F150 Screw 4X4 5.4L"

PS. I have a K&N filter in both my truck and car. Not for performance claimes but because they are reusable.
