Smelly white smoke, Power, Idle problems
The last couple of days I've noticed white smoke coming from the exhaust of my 2000 f150, the exhaust smells bad kinda like rotten eggs but not quite, also the truck is pretty gutless from a standing start. Its the 4.6 v8. Also the idle has been a little off it usually holds at about 1000-1100 rpm until if warms up a little and the when stopped in drive it drops to ~500rpm, the truck has a slight shake to it like the engine is thinking about stalling, any ideas?
I should add that I've been near empty on fuel for the past couple of days but even after filling up today and driving a few miles with a completely warmed engine there was still stinky white exhaust when I got home.

I know why your 4.6 is weak......
It's a 4.6, join the club! Our trucks (NA) don't have alot of low end torque. Automatics anyways. I'm counter-acting that with a SC.
As for the STINK, I've never really whiffed my exhaust pipe...Smart A$$ right! Might have your cats looked at, they might be stopped-up. If you don't have emission testing, cut'em off, that'll help with power some. Could be why you have a low idle but then my 03 idles at about 600 rpm's. So I'd say the idle might be normal. If you replace your cats put on high flows.
Just my O....
I read your thread again... that white smoke don't sell like anti-freeze does it? Could be a blowed head gasket. Just a little white smoke is probably condensation but alot might be your gasket.

Excessive heat coming from under the truck, and poor exhaust pressure at the tailpipe. Not to mention being rediculously sluggish, and the rotten egg smell. Also, you may have a small intake leak. Check your coolant to make sure there is no discoloration to the dark side, and check your oil to make sure that it doesnt look like a milkshake. Generally the cats will not cause a miss or smoke white. Sound like you have water getting into your combustion chamber to me. I hope for your sake that it is not the latter. I just had to do both head gaskets on mine (3,000 miles out of warranty). Not really a pretty picture when the dealer, or any shop for that matter, tells you what it will cost...I wish you the best of luck.
