Oil Filter

Hi,

I have an 05 Lariat 4x4 and today I did my first oil change after 4000 miles. Drained my oil and no problems. Then came the hard part. The oil filter. Can someone tell me how to hell to get this thing off? I tried from every angle I could and even went out and bought one of those oil filter disc type things you put on a rachet and slip on the entire bottom part of the filter, and of course it didnt fit. I cant get any leverage and this filter. It seems like it's welded on its that tight. They could have put the oil filter in a better location. Anyway anyone know of a better tool to us besides the normal oil filter wrench? Does Ford have a special one just for this? Unfortunatly I was forced to put my new oil in with the oil filter still on. I always put some oil on the O ring and a little on the treads when I put filters on. Guess Ford just have a machine that puts them on and over tightens them. Suggestions?

Thanks for your time.

This has been covered plenty of times you have 2 major options.
  1. Let the dealer do the first oil change
  2. Pry the living **** out of the filter trying to get it to rotate.

In the past I have used a "punch" and hammer. Punch a hole from the side and this will give you good leverage. I don't worry about destroying the old filter since it's going to be tossed anyway.

I was going to say the same thing; puch a hole witch a good sized screw driver and then use the handle to turn.

The last time I tried the screwdriver through the filter method was many years ago. I just ripped the filter in half. Then I really had a problem. I never tried that again!
