01 F-150 with Cobra badge

I recently bought a F-150 from a friend. At first glance you would think Lightning but Lightning is no where to be found on the vehicle nor is there a supercharger. There is Cobra badges on both front fenders, stitched into the leather seats, and a badge on the engine. What do I have on my hands? did this come form the factory? I've talked to this speed shop guy & he said he would rather start off with what I have than a Lightning if he was going to beef up a F-150 & that it could be made faster. Is there any history out there on this model. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area & see Lightnings all the time, but I have never repeat never seen an F-150 with a Cobra badge. any info will be helpful. One more thing when I get on it the transmission makes a hissing noise when the gears change its a cool sound & I think its suppose to be there but what is it Thanks Bigglee

The Cobra moniker is reserved for Mustangs. It's most likely a custom fabrication by the previous owner.

Someone may have dropped a cobra motor in that unit. If they did....You would know it. But probably an imposter.

Yeah, Ford never put out a truck with the Cobra badges on it...someone stuck em on there. Id rip those badges off, but thats just me Nothin wrong with a Cobra, they just dont belong on an F150, especially if thats all they did is put the badges and seats in there.

I found a website that has some exterior parts to make f-150s look like lightnings. The parts are named cobra and if you look closely to the sides of the trucks you can see cobra written on them. This is the website, Cervinis.com
