Ticking/Clacking noise when in gear.

I have a 2000 5.4L that makes a ticking/clacking noise when I put it in gear. This happens only after the truck has sat for at least 6 hours.

No ticking when it is in Park but when I put it in gear the ticking/clacking starts. The ticking/clacking speeds up as I accelerate. It goes away after a few minutes.

Any ideas? I've read most of the other posts but most of them have the ticking/clacking while in Park and in gear. This never makes the sound while in Park.

I checked manifold bolts, idler pulley, tensioner pulley, belt, no loose plugs. From what I can see and have replaced these items are ok.

Any ideas before I take it to Ford and get dragged across the coals for something that might be a simple fix?

Could this be a tranny issue?

Thanks.
