uhh why the 4.6 and 351 make about same kinda of power numbers due to 4.6 has better technology and 351 uses old technology push rods.. and is a less efficient engine. keep your 4.6L if u wan more power for towing do a 5.4L swap it would be much easier....

Even if it fits mechanically, how are you going to deal with the electronics?

What they said. You'd be better off beefing up the 4.6 (bolt ons and supercharger if you want to go crazy...) or if the 4.6 is blown or high milage swapping to a 5.4 would be your better bet.

sorry, didn't tell you guys the 4.6 is blown in my 94 cougar. I took the carburated windsor out of my 79 cougar and replaced it with a 5.0. .The wiring i have figured out: i went to the scrap yard and got the wiring for fire, i just need to get the wiring for the starter- no problem. if the 351w doesnt bolt up to my 4r7ow tranny, then i'm getting a m5od-r2 out of a pick-up (it the same tranny used in the t-bird super coupes 89-95).
thank you guys for your responces

The M5OD isn't gonna like the 351 for the long term.

That's a good point. If the 351 makes about the same power as the 4.6, then why wouldn't the M5OD stand up to the 351? Maybe since the displacement is bigger it makes more torque, not horsepower.

My M50D doesn't like the abuse I put it through with a 4.9L. I wouldn't recommend putting it behind a 351. Why not a T-5?
