Rebuilt starter, now stalling, ideas?
Alright guys, what gives, my 97 150 w/4.6 4x4 had a starter failure 3 weeks ago, I removed the starter and had a new brush assembly installed, $17.00, lots better than new starter, put starter back in and life is good again. Now it is stalling at low speeds, no stumble or shaking, you'll be easing along and it dies, it always fires real easy, never ever did it do this before fixing the starter, did having the battery unhooked all day do something to the programming? Truck runs perfect, just stalls, not all the time, some days none, other times 4 times in a row. Ideas?
For a 97 year, is it time to clean the throttle body and the Idle air controller?
This is what controls the air into the engine. If it shuts down, the engine will die.
Possible Throttle position sensor fault also.
There is a lot going on that you don't know about. When you go into decelleration, the computer shuts down most of the fuel and just keep enough air and fuel to keep the engine from dieing.
At this time , the computer tables are updated and certain tests are done.
The reason is, this is a time that the processor doesnot have a lot other things to do running the engine, that take up internal time.
Look for air intake leaks between the mass air meter and the throttle body.
Bolts and nuts tight on all the hardware etc.
