Don't buy gas SEPTEMBER 10th!

People can be morons. OPEC doesn't set the price of oil and the oil refineries don't set the price of gas. Oil and gasoline futures are bought and sold on the stock exchange just like gold and pork bellies. Gas was trading at $2.50 a gallon yesterday, so add your state & local taxes and about 5 cents per gallon transportation costs, and you figure out if you're being gouged or not.
The local gas stations selling fuel for $2.99 were making 0.75 cent (less than a penny) profit per gallon. Those selling at $3.39 and higher were making a pretty good profit. In their defense, at some point, they have to make enough money to buy the next shipment of gasoline.
When this is over, I'll remember who was selling gas at cost and who was gouging people.

And lets remember who was still buying gas at those stations instead of carpooling, riding the bus, etc. Maybe it wasn't you buying, but the next guy was. If you could still sell just as much gas at $4 a gallon as you could at $2 would you not do it? It is simple supply and demand.
I did notice traffic was a great deal lighter today than normal. It might be gas or it might just be the holiday weekend keeping a lot of people from going to work. I am leaning more towards the holiday.

Fine, I will fill my truck on Friday the 9th and my wifes car on Sunday the 11th.
Now do you see why the 1 day boycott is moronic and will never work. This has been beat to death on this site and others. Get a clue! You have to stop consuming fuel altogether not just change the day you buy it!
Kill this stupid thread please!

Not buying gas on one day will not have any positive affect on gas prices. What I've heard, and which sounds pretty logical is if you avoid pumping gas at Mobile and Exxon, since they are the two major oil distributors, gas prices will lower. If Mobile and Exxon are not making any money, they will have to lower their prices, and in doing so, others will have to follow to compete with their major competitors. So avoid pumping at those two stations.

I don't see day or week boycotts, company boycotts or any of that working. If the demand is there, moving it from one company to the next or from one day to the other is useless.
Anyone that lives in Atlanta knows the NEGATIVE impact that these stupid chain letters and rumors can do. This past Wednesday a rumor was started that there was going to be a gas shortage in the Atlanta area due to pipelines that were down because of the hurricane. This immediately caused mass hysteria with long lines at the pump and an INCREASE in fuel prices, some up to $6/ gallon. And guess what, we did have a fuel shortage - due to the fact that every uneducated moron out there went and filled every vehicle they owned and any container they had that would hold gas and eventually stations did run out of fuel due to the fact that there were not enough trucks to fill the stations back up. It is Friday and there are still stations that only have premium in their tanks. Now, if nothing had been said, everyone would have gone about the regular routines and yes, there might have been a few stations out there that ran low on fuel, but not ALL OF THEM like we just saw.
Rather than not buy gas that day, why not sit at your computer and hit DELETE when you receive crap like this!!!
By they way, whenever you get stuff like this, a great website to go to is www.snopes.com to see if it is truth or crap.
Whew, I feel better - you all have a good weekend.
