n00b- easy question for now
2005 F150 Super Crew. 5.4, 900 miles so far.
Lovin it.
One Question though (I asked the dealer and he hasn't gotten back to me):
When its running and I'm outside the truck, about a handful of times I hear a pretty loud clicking coupled with what sounds like a little shot of air, real quick, like a half a second, "pshew" kinda sound, coming from the engine area. I have not opened the hood yet to listen for it, but I've heard it 4-5 times now. My guess is that it is the a/c system regulating its pressure or something and that it is normal, just thought I'd ask though.
Is this sound normal? You all get this sound? Is it the A/C?
Thanks in advance all.

It's definately an air-shot kinda sound. A/C being the only thing I can think of underpressure would be the culprit. Might be their new fangled system, I'm just wondering if anyone else is hearing the same sound. I'll have to get under there and pin-point it.
The Clicking sound is most likely the A/C Clutch engaging. Even with A/C off, most new vehicles cycles the A/C compressor on and off every now an then to keep them from seezing up when not in use for long periods lets say like hummmm WINTER.
As for the sound of Air pressure releasing, well Mine sorta sounds like that but I think it's just the extra tension all of a sudden on the Fan Belt when the A/C clutch engages.
Just my toughts

I have a clicking noise on mine and it goes on a LOT. Like every every 20 seconds it's clicking I could guess...
I looked around here and found other posts on it and it's said it's the A/C. Other people are having trouble with the compressor clicking on and off a lot. Drive some with your windows cracked or down and you'll hear it happen a lot...
Wish it wasn't so loud... Sitting in traffic it sounds like something's broken on my truck.

Paul2,
I have a 2005 5.4 Supercrew with 600 miles on it and have the same exact sound coming out of it. As a matter of fact, I just started to worry about it yesterday.
My close buddy was a Ford Service Manager, Sales Manager and is now a GM for Ford. I'm going to ask him for the truth on what the noise is.

that clicking is the A/C compressor cycling off and on. Wha you might want to check on is the quality of the "Cold" air. I have a 91 exploder and we went through 5 compressors in a month before the a/c was pronounced with the "Black Death" problem. I hate to say it but Ford's are know for this little problem and their A/C.s Now that does not stop me from owning 5 ford vehicles
. But check your "Cold" air quality. Also I remember the A/C repair dude saying that the clicking was the bearings getting ready to go out on the A/C compressor. Since you have so few miles , take it back to the dealer and have them check it. Good luck with that.

thanks Hurricane. Let us know what you find out.
I'm very used to cycling of the compressor, and hearing the clicks, my Grand Cherokee does the same thing. My concern is with the clicking comes an air blow-off sound, "pshew"...very quickly. That sounds a bit wierd.
Maybe that's just what the new compressors do. ??
FWIW, the dealer never got back to me...guess once he sold me the truck, he doesn't care any more.
