air intake question

has anyone tried one of the air intake kits that are on ebay? given they are not the airaid or the k&n kit, but for $50 bucks compared to $200 are they worth it. btw, searched but couldnt find my answer.

I designed my own cold air intake that puts the filter in front of the left front tire where it gets cold, moving air forced into it. Only costs around 60 bucks and it's fun and easy to make.

faster, that is a nice looking setup and a nice price . i think i will go with one of the cheaper kits on ebay, but im gonna shop around a little while longer before i make a purchase. is the rule of thumb to disconnect the neg battery cable when adding any intake upgrade to reset ecu, i know thats how it is on my mustang and i would think it would also apply to the truck?
