code p-1299

While driving my, (1998 f-150 4.6 L ),the check engine light and oil light came on. After the lights came on the engine became very slugish, I could only go about 20 miles an hr. I hooked up my code reader and came up with P-1299 and it said : manufacture control- fuel air meatering. after clearing the code the oil and check engine lights went off and the engine ran normal again. I think that it is a sensor that is going bad.I went to the a local ford dealer and gave them the code. Their answer was that they never heard of that code before, but they would be happy to put it on their machine for me.
Please help ! Does anyone know what this might be? Thanks

It's an over temperature code that shuts down alternate cylinders to keep from engine damage, hence why the engine ran poorly.
The service writer just brushed you off. He does not interfere with service tech work. They go by what they see not what you say.

Bluegrass is 100% right on what your code was and why it ran so poorly, so now you just have to figure out why it over heated or if you have a cylinder head temp sender that was sending a false reading.

Indeed, the computer thought it was overheating:

P1299 - Cylinder Head Over Temperature Protection Active Indicates an engine overheat condition was detected by the cylinder head temperature (CHT) sensor.

An FMEM Strategy called Fail-safe Cooling was activated to cool the engine.

Engine cooling system concerns
Low engine coolant level
Base engine concerns
