Question Question for you Motor Heads

Im getting ready to add a few bolt ons, and was wondering should I at least get my truck dynoed before I bolt on or does most of the 5.4's have +/- the same horse power? If you know of a particular brand or product that is better than the other please comment as I Would like to buy the right product the first time.

The bolt on's I were concidering were

1. Superchip 1714

2. Air Raid/ K&N /AFO (confused, not sure yet)

3. SISO Magnaflow

4. Efans

5. Underdive Pulleys

6. Plasma Booster

7. And a little squirt.( not sure which one yet)Maybe a 75 or 100 shot

In that order. If you have seen other bolt ons perform better please post.

This is a daily driver so dont want to get in to the truck too much. Just so da** tired of chevys coming up to me at the light and blowing my doors off with just a little flowmaster.

The truck is a 2004 F150 screw 2wd.

Any suggestions, comments? All are appreciated.

Also I am new to the board, I was over at 150 net.

Hi my name is Dave, Im a FORDadic.

i think the parts you have chosen will give you a nice increase.

a dyno run here is about $ 75 for a couple of pulls so if that is not a lot of money to you, then go for it, then you will know how much power you gained.
a dyno run after all the parts are installed makes a lot of sense just to make sure the chip is doing its job and providing a safe tune.
if it were me i would do inthis order.

fans
pulleys
exhaust
airraid
the the chip so that you can make sure what you get, will match your parts.
also the chip requires 93 octane the other mods dont.

check out the chip section

i would hold off on the no2, you might be satisfied with what you have

You prefer the chip over the 1714 Micro tuner?

Yes go with the microtuner. Either the Superchips Microtuner, the Hypertech Power Programmer, or the Xcal. As far as the intake kits I favor the Airaid, but once again of the three its up to you. I will tell you that the Airaid and the Air Force One are the 2 that are highly recommended by Troyer. Youve made a good choice with the exhaust, the Magnaflow SISO is a great setup and highly recommended as well by Troyer and those that have it as well love it. These items here will give you a new truck. Save yourself the money, dyno it once, after the mods. The nitrous is definately gonna void any warranty you may have and I know I got myself the Platinum warranty and extended it cuz I like the security and Im not losing that for nothing. Forced induction of the supercharger type although quite a bit more expensive is the better route to go for that kind of horsepower gains.

Yea I like the Supercharger also but noooo way. I go through way to many 150's lately. This is my 5th new Ford in 4 years.

I have been leaning towards the AF1 and the Airaid but just cant make up my mind. What series of MAGNA Flow did you install?

The squirt wont go in until after the warranty goes out..

I havent installed an exhaust yet. I bought a Flowmaster 40 series Delta Flow as its supposed to have the famous Flowmaster sound without the interior resonance at cruising speeds. Being that one of the reasons that I bought this F150 was its interior cabin being the quietest in its class this Flowmaster seemed perfect for me as I wanted an exhaust on the louder side. Didnt want one that would be too quiet. Anyways havent installed it yet so cant tell you for sure what its really like. Hopefully I can get it done within the next week. I have an 05 truck and went with the Superchips and the Airaid and very pleased with both and I have installed them.

What are you doing to your trucks that you've been through five in four years? If the supercharger is properly installed and engine is properly tuned, it can last as long as a stock one.

I'll second that. A properly installed and configured supercharged motor should be very stable and reliable which is why I recommended it over spraying the motor.

Yes dyno your truck if available. Baseline and post mods is a great tool to determine proper tuning of the truck and determines where that power comes in at so that you can best utilyze it.
