Oil pressure gauge in 4.6l F150

I have a 2000 F150 with a 4.6l that I drive daily. Today the oil pressure gauge went down in the "red" and the oil light came on. I shut it off and cranked it and it was fine but later down the road it did the same thing. It did not make any noises or anything that led me to believe that something was wrong. Could this be a bad sending unit or, could it possibly be the oil pump going out?

I have had the same problem with my wife's 01 SportTrac. I know not the same truck, much less motor but exactly the same symptoms. Oil Pressure Sending Unit gone bad according to the dealer. They replaced it and that was the end of that problem.

The sending unit is going bad, replace it. They're under $10 from the dealer and are relatively easy to replace. It's best to change them during an oil change.
