Engine choice, new 150 Supercab

Hi everyone, glad I found this site as I am in the process of searching for a new truck to replace my '03 Silverado. I'm eligible for big discounts on GM products, although I'm a F150 fan at heart. With this current program, it's time to upgrade! I'M looking to buy a 05 Supercab 4x4. Although I'll buy the towing pkg as usual, I've never used it yet. Mostly on road driving, with much of it in northern Pa in hilly/mountainous areas. Is the 4.6L engine enough? I see it has the same torque as my 4.8l Vortec, but gives up alot of HP. Thanks for your assistance.

***** the 4.6. The 5.4 has the exact same EPA mileage rating, so why would you want the 4.6???

KC-10 FE out...

If you're not planning on doing any heavy towing, the 4.6L will do fine. But the 5.4L gives a nice kick in the pants, and not much difference in gas mileage. Also because of its design, the 5.4L has much more horsepower over the previous generation Triton 5.4L. Of course, it's your choice. I love the new F-150's! I am so tempted, but I need to pay off my '03.

Get the 5.4. Like others have stated, gas mileage is about the same. It should also help with resale.

I test drove both engines about three weeks ago, then purchased the 5.4 for its moderately better torque and acceleration. These trucks are heavy, and IMO, the 5.4 is a nice refinement with little or no penalty. In NE PA, where I lived for more than ten years, I would consider it a necessity. That's particularly true if you're going for the 4X4, which is heavier than the 2X LS I purchased. Your mileage will probably suffer a little up and down the mountains compared to the 4.6, but I think you'll find it's worthwhile. Hope this helps with your decision. Enjoy the new F150!
