How many Texans have blown a spark plug?
How many Texans have blown a spark plug?
I blew my spark plug on Saturday night on the way to work. Took it to the local dealership Monday. They got it in the shop Tuesday. I have an extended warranty through an aftermarket dealer. I have 68000 miles on the truck. My claim was declined because my warranty said it was not a mechanical failure. They don't cover spark plugs. So it is going to cost me about $500 for the repair of the head. The service manager at the dealership said he had only seen it one other time in his three years and it was a harley-davidson edition with the supercharged 5.4. My truck should be ready this afternoon, but this pisses me off that I'm having to pay for a Ford ****up. I don't want to bash Ford because I do like my supercrew, but they need to be held accountable for their mistake. I guess Ford figures that out of all the hundreds of thousands of F150s with this head design it has sold between 1998-2003, a few thousand failures is acceptable. So how many Texans have blown a spark plug?
havok3,
I think you need to raise some hell. This is not a spark plug failure. A new spark plug would not have fixed the problem. The head failed by not holding the spark plug in, the head is a mechanical part.
Get on the phone with the company the holds your extended warrantee and remember no matter who you talk to, everyone has a boss. Keep getting the boss on the phone until you get one that has common sense.
Good luck.

The warranty people are telling me that the shop would have to call them and explain to them what happened and they would have to send out an inspector. He said they were told by the shop that the failure was caused by the spark plug blowing out the top of the head. He said no one mentioned the head as failing. But as the repair has already been completed and paid for by me, there's nothing that they can do. He said that there's nothing to inspect and the repair was completed without an authorization from them. This is bull****.
Making the dealer responsible
We all know that Ford will not take responsibility for blown plugs/poor head design. So why not make the dealer responsible by having your plugs replaced or retorqued every 12 months or so. that way if something does happen at least you have a repair order and maybe you can show poor workmanship on the dealer part. Now theres no doubt that the dealer will point the finger at Ford but at least something gets brewed up and a good layer can make a case. What do you think?
