5.4 limited at the start?
5.4 limited at the start?
I have a 2005 F-150 with a 5.4 limited slip 3.73. I think the truck runs pretty good but it feels as if it is electronically limited off the start. Does Ford limit the off the line power to prevent wheel spin?
There is a throttle by wire system in the new F150s. Not sure if they govern the engine during take off. I have driven the '04 5.4 and it does not take off like my '01 5.4...could be that it also weights a lot more than my '01 as well.

It just seems it should at least chirp the tires a little bit off the start. I am sure that the peak torque and horsepower are a little higher in the revs with the new engine but I am not an expert. My buddies 2500 dodge with the 5.9 is heavier than my truck with less HP and it seems a lot quicker. Heck, I only have 235,75 tires on it. My 25hp Cub Cadet will smoke those off.
True. It weighs about 5800 pounds or so. But I believe his Dodge 2500 extra cab longbed is about 6600 pounds or so. I am happy with the truck. I was just wondering if Ford did something to make it more docile off the start. I had heard they did something to the new Mustangs to prevent them from spinning the tires.
With the new PCM controlled throttle BS, it might not be going to WOT or whatever you want it to go to until it "learns" the way you drive.
I hate Ford for the stupid POS idea. I am thinking about getting a new Stang but I don't want to because of that crap. I might come up with a way to have a cable going from the pedal to the TB so it opens as far and as fast as I want it to.

King, you can't do that because there are alot of electronics involved with it and the PCM programming.
The PCM has torque control vs shifting vs road speed etc built into the program.
These designs are increasingly taking any outside control away from the owner except from those who develope a way to modify the software and sometimes incorporate aftermarket hardware. "M. T." types. hint/hint.
Why is this being done? For increased reliability to the general buyer (a sales deal over the long run to make the truck show longer overall life over the competition), and not for the relitivley small number that want the old time performance.
The way improve performance is the newly found air intake and some program changes that gets some nice power increases on the 5.4 3valve engines.
