I Need Help!!!!!
I have a 1997 F-150 that I bought it had a bad transmission then later I found that the motor was junk too. Now I need the motor but everywhere I call looking for they tell me that they do not have to motor suitable for my truck, because the 8th digit of my vin is "6". I am told that the only motors that they have are ones for the trucks with the digit "w". I am wondering if anyone may help by telling me the difference between these two motors, if there is any. I need to get this truck running as soon as possible this is the only thing stopping me. I would appreciate if someone would please help me.

I'm fairly new to the 4.6 difference, so this may be pretty accurate: The difference is the number of bolts in the valve cover and the flywheel. If you don't get the "6" one, the tranny won't bolt up. Again this is only to the best of my knowledge. But since you say the tranny is blown, you most likely could get the engine/trans assembly and put that in your truck. As far as I know the wiring is the same between the "w" and the "6"
yes. Ford made a 4.6 in a windsor, and a romeo. The romeo has the extra bolt in the right valve cover. Also, all 5.4s are romeo engines. I'm not sure the vin designation for which one is which. All motor mounts are the same for all three motors in the f series.
