Modular V-8 in a Ford Ranger?
Modular V-8 in a Ford Ranger?
Several years back I helped a buddy of mine put a built 302 with the neccesary 3 speed tranny and 9 inch rear end in a 1995 Ford Ranger Standard Cab. Other than the obvious handling problems that come with a 400 hp engine in an extremley light weight truck it was fun but after three wrecks he sold it. Now the guy has an '02 Ranger with a 3.0, manual tranny etc. He now wants to find out if it's possible to drop a modular V-8, preferrably 5.4, in this truck with a five speed from a totaled 99 F-150 that his cousin has (he believes since the '02 is an extended cab that his handling problems want be as severe). I told him that I personally believe that the 5.4 is too wide to fit and I'm not sure but I would assume that the 4.6 is too. My personal advice is that he should either buy a full size truck with a V-8 or if he just wants a small ford, such as the ranger, with a V-8 then he should again build a 302... seems like the more effecient way of getting big hp... but he doesn't want big hp just a reliable newer V-8. Anyway have any of you guys seen a Ranger,Explorer, or Mazada B series with a modular V-8? Just looking for feedback to strenghthen my arguement with a chap that obviously has more dough then brains.
