which intake for 2000 Expy?
which intake for 2000 Expy?
Hi Guys,
Im new to the forums, and i JUST bought a 2000 Ford Expedition XLT, 5.4L V8. Silver, with leather, moonroof, loaded for an XLT i guess.
Anyway, there are a couple initial modifications i would like to make:
-Air Intake
-Lightning Bumper
-Clear Headlights and Front Turn Signals (Euro? Like the lightning)
So i guess this section of the forum is engine related, thus i will ask the intake question:
I have seen the K&N 77 Intake the FIPK, the Af1, Brute Force and a ton of $40 Ebay intakes. What is the best bang for the buck, i guess the FIPK from KN is a plastic enclosure which reduces intake sound. I would PREFER to have a nice throaty V8 sound, as im sure most do. So i mean, is there really a big difference between getting a well known brand intake vs a no-name ebay one and putting a genuine K&N filter on it? Obviously cost is a factor, i will spend between $100-$200 USD i guess.
Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance!
Shawn

i bought of of those ebay ones for my 5.4 f-150 the filter is blue right? mine wasnt long enuf to reach the metal pan your supposed to bolt it down to.. it was close so i made new holes. the pipe is actually metal on them and gets VERY hot. i lost mpg in the long run. if price isnt an option i would recommend volant. theirs is a sealed material box and tube that goes in the stock locating. it retains little to no heat what so ever and is an actually true cold ait in take. not the metal of plastic heat sheilds like k&n uses. air raid is another well known one that many people have on the forum. i personally dont kno too much about them... never owned one. but by the wya people talk about it most like it.
EDIT: by the way i got my clear corners on ebay for pretty cheap. easy to fit and everything and i think i bought them from an ebay store... ill try to find the name of the company if i still have it. i have done alot of business with them and their fast n cheap ( not women like tho)

hi,
yes i would appreciate the link to the ebay store where you got your lights.
Also, where is the best place, by best i mean cheapest, to get the air raid intake or AF1 intake?
So, if the KN Type 77 intake is aluminum, does this actually reduce performance since the air is much hotter? Does anyone actually have one of these intakes installed, any input?
