Hi Guys,

I am just about to give up....I have read pretty much every post on engine knock.

I have a 2000 Lincoln Navigator with the 5.4L 32v DOHC engine. When I start it, I sometimes get a noice in engine and will hear it when i rev at 2000 rpms in park or neutral. When I drive I can nto hear it anymore at 2krpm, but will ocasionally hear it when I let go of the gas.

It does sound like a deep knock like a rod, but thats just by what I have read. Why it happens sometime and only in park is what really makes me think.

Let me know what you guys think and if there are any last resort tips I can try before swapping engines.

why would you swap a motor if it still runs strong?

what are you bill gates little brother or something?

It could just be from the engine having so many miles on it. And perhaps it is doing it all the time, except being in the car physically, you don't hear it.

So you think its only when its in park when it does it in dirve as well and reverse for that mater.....

My 5.4 did the same tapping noise and turns out the motor blew a plug wich is VERY common. It has to do with faulty head work when leaving the facotry;...

That is, if this is the prob.


I head the same consisten tapping in mine though. If you rev, it goes faster too.......
