5.4 eats coils?
5.4 eats coils?
2001 Screw, approx 40k miles. Friends truck. It ate a coil a while back, we gigured it was a fluke. It ate another one last month. Saturday he flew back into town, got in the truck which had been parked at the airport for two weeks, and the rough running / no power etc popped up again. Plus, today he gets a bonus: the check engine light is on!! Appears to be the same issue, a dead cylinder.. Dealer will tell this AM..
I have an 04 Screw with the 5.4. Is this something I get to look forward to?? Is there some way to prevent this problem?
Thanks!!

Mine seems to be on a diet. Ate only two in around 110K miles. The first one under warranty and the second one the #7, I changed it myself.
I am not sure if I dreamed of this or if they are for real. Are there any aftermarket high performance coils for our trucks? If yes, where?

I don't think it will be a recurring problem, but what do I know?
Seriously the coils are $45-$55 a pop from a parts store and new rubber boots are $5-$10 each. Not bad one at a time or you could just replace them all at one clip if you were so inclined. I would not sell a truck over a problem like that, but that's just me.

LOL, hopefully we're still friends after he reads this..
BTW, my wife outbid ya already..
Hmmmmm...
Not sure I want to point him down that slippery slope.... First the coils, then its a K&N, then we are off to the exhaust shop... Soon a chip
Heck, it might catch my 6.0 then
Thanks guys!! I'm waiting to hear the dealers latest diagnosis..

I drive an F350 PSD..
When my wife doesnt steal it, which seems to be getting more and more frequent lately..

So, diagnosis was the # 5 coil I believe, or the # 8 and # 5 and #3 have already been changed... "Fluke" according to the dealer... Mighty expensive "fluke" IMO. I think I am going to price the MSD's out and see what they run... Cant be too hard to change on the side of the road
sorry just being protective u said it might catch my 6.0 which is common shevy lingo for 6.0L HO motor.. thats in their trucks... which is slow.... so no offence to ya just representing!!! lol
LOL, I know the 5.7 and the 6.2, never even knew they had a 6.0... I think I will steer clear of it..
Checking MSD's site they do not seem to list the COP for the 5.4 unless I missed something.. Which is most likely the case
