Ok check engine came and got a egr code; cleaned both ports very well (were clogged) put the egr back but I think I connected the hoses backwards. Does it matter?

If you're talking about the hoses going to the DPFE, yes, it does matter. Take them off. You'll notice one is larger than the other. You will also notice the exhaust and the DPFE have one fitting larger than the other. Hook the hoses up to the corresponding fittings on both ends.
