Removing Fan Blade on 01 F-150 5.4L
Okay guys,
I need to remove the fan blade on my f-150 5.4L engine . The shop manual calls for "Use the fan pulley holding wrench to hold the water pump pulley steady Use the fan clutch nut wrench to remove the fan blade (8600) and the fan clutch". Now the last time I bought a "Special" ford wrench, it was not cheap. Anybody replaced this fan blade recently and used just general tools to get it out?
Thanks in advance

AutoZone usually has where you can rent the specialty tool. You put a deposit down, use the tool and then return the tool and get your deposit back. It keeps you from having to buy the actual tool. Me and my buddy had to get the spanner wrench from them the other night to do the water pump on his jeep. Hope this helps.
Put a long flat screwdriver between the shaft and two of the bolts holding the water pump pulley on and it will act a a lever. There is no need to purchase a special tool for this job.

Ummmm, last summer sometime.... It's been almost a year. I actually have HAD them for almost a year and a half, but just finally installed them after I moved into my new house a little over a year ago.
By far, the second best mod I've done to the drivetrain!
[edit] I just had a brief flash of memory clarity.... It must have been last spring BEFORE I moved.... I remember both fan motors crapped out (burned open) on the way to the closing on the new house. (promptly followed by a Furnace that was inoperative when I returned from the closing as well... that was a bad couple of days for cooling systems!!) No idea why they took a dive, but FAL sent me new ones no charge and I reverted back to the mechanical fan/clutch for a couple weeks. No problems since.
