DPFE sensor fitting replacement

While pulling on the hoses connected to the DPFE sensor block, I broke the plastic fitting that resides in the driver's side valve cover that attaches one of the two hoses to the sensor block. It appears as if it is sealed in place using an adhesive???? Anyone ever change the plastic bung? Can it be done without removing the valve cover? Any advice? I can't figure out how to remove it without distorting what is left, which is not much because it broke flush with the top of the valve cover.

Sorry, about that. It is the 4.6 on a '97. I was mistaken on the plastic bung being part of the DFPE. I am not really sure what the bung and hose are for. I will have to give it a closer inspection in the morning.

The only thing that a hose could connect to on the driver side came cover is part of the PVC system. There is a plastic hose that runs from the Air inlet tube in front of the throttle body to the driver side cam cover. The fitting ( bung ) that you broke off should be pressed into a rubber grommit in the cam cover. if it proves to be an intregral part of the cam cover some JB weld, ok maybe a lot of JB weld, and stick it back on. Is it the black tube with the red cap in the left cam cover in the picture below?

Yes, it is the black fitting on the drivers side cam cover with the red cap. I think I will try to find a smaller diameter piece of PVC pipe and go with the JB Weld suggestion you made, then attach the hose to the PVC. What is the purpose of this setup, just to vent the gases back to the intake? I don't know how to post pictures, or I would. Thanks for the suggestions.

This is designed to vent crank case gasses. The Driver side valve cover issupposed to let air into the engine block and the passenger side vents it through the PCV valve into the intake manifold so it can be burned in the combustion chamber.

You sure went to a lot of trouble to pull your engine, strip it down and clean it up, pose it beautifully and snap that photo! I'm impressed

What I won't do to help out a fellow F-150 owner.
