Gas Tank Connection

I'm going to be dropping my rear gas tank on a 94 f150. Is there any special tool need to take the assembly off the top of the tank. I've been told you can twist it off but not sure if a special wrench is needed.

thanks

Dunno about the new ones but my '88 had a locking ring that I used a hammer and old beat up screwdriver to turn it the quarter turn to unlock it. Keep in mind that I'm going on memory and it was 15 years ago so take it for what it's worth.

Yeah.... the lock ring is a royal pain in the ****.... just pick up a new one from the stealership before you drop it as you'll likely mangle it in the process anyways.
