V6 to V8 replacement

I have a 2000 Ford F-150 XLT with a 4.2L V6 engine. A few months ago she started to make a loud chattering noise with the engine cold. I find out that the noise came from the cam shaft lifters. Many people tell me those engines didn’t last for long time. Mine has 122954 miles on it. Some one recommends taking out the engine for a complete rebuild. But I don’t know if that will fix the problem. I will like to know if any one has replaced the engine with a 4.6L V8. What has to be replace, the computer, the engine wiring harness, etc.

Thank you for your help

You will also need a new tranny. The bolt patterns of the two engines are different. While you are at it why not get a 5.4?
