do you need a lift for cab removal?

I am replacing the motor on my 1997 extended cab F-150, I plan on removing the cab, can it be done without a lift? I have several people willing to help. Searched the archives and was unable to find the answer. Thank You, also any suggestions on where to get the best deal on a long block. Shawn

Unless you have a lift don't bother removing the cab. It has to be lifted high enough to clear the engine. Can your friends lift it that high and still walk away from the truck and put it doms safely? Just remove the intake manifold and lift the engine out with a cherry picker. That is what I do.
