Unhappy Hooting Noise

Hi, I have a 2004 F150, and from the first day I picked up the truck it has
a hooting noise. This happens every time I let off the gas. I have had it back to the dealer 12 times for this and they have replaced the alternator, intake, rear end and nothing has helped. Has anyone else had this problem?

Sounds like you may have a problem with the idle air control valve. They are known to make noises that may sound like a hoot. When you let your foot off the gas, the throttle valve closes and air is then directed through this IAC valve. The IAC valve keeps the RPMs where the engine will not stall. The noise comes from the air passing through this valve much like a whistle. However, the noise you hear is not normal. Replacing the IAC valve usually takes care of the problem.

The other possibility is that you have an owl nesting under your hood.

Sorry, couldn't resist

Idle speed is controlled by the stepper motor on drive-by-wire systems like on an '04+ F150, with drive by wire the IAC has been deleted.

Thanks Quinton, I guess I didn't pay that much attention to the year model. You are correct. My mind had a drive by too.
