got the sockets from work today, it is a 1 1/16 socket, but the edges are rounded, unlike my 1 1/16 with sharp points. engine is too hot to work on now, gives me an excuse to drink beer and start friday afternoon

that sounds like a plan

I agree Pony. My dad gave me a 91 caddy and the fittings on that dude are worse than they are on my F-150 by a long shot.

To make things worse, the old unit had parallel sides (wrench or socket could get it) the new one was rounded. I looked like a monkey fornicating with a football under my truck. Huggind the damn front diff, trying to use channel locks to tighten the sending unit 1mm at a time.

Finally

Got that sucker in and working, I will have to give the electrician @ work a big ole smooch for that special socket. It is so nice now to see a gauge that finally works after all this time. And it is neat to see when you get on the highway and go thru the gears, rpm's going up, oil psi going up!

I have had many the same problems. 97 F150 4.6, 153K miles. Oil guage goes all the way to L and jumps around then light comes on. I have turned it off in time to save the engine but my mechanic is not sure what it is. I feel that the engine is not getting oil when the guage goes down because of the sound of the engine. Therefore I feel that it is the oil pump. To take the oil pan off, do I have to pull the engine to replace the oil pump?

Thanks
