350 Dually Questions

Started a previous thread about 4X4, now I need to know something else.

What year did Ford stop using carbs in the 350s?

I'm thinking a carburated model would be easier for me to maintain on the Models I'm looking at.

Just looking for a Farm truck to work. How new a model can I get for $8k.

What years should I be looking at??

thanks guys, got approved by the bank and I have 60 days to find one.

Doing some more research...

Did Ford stop making the 350 Dually for a while starting in '98? Can't seem to find a listing for it in Kelly Blue Book (kkb.com)

was there a 250 dually instead?? Is it as strong??

Ok, this stuff I know for sure. Kinda complicated.

1997: The body style for the F150 changed for 1997 model year from the old body style in 96. There also was two different types of F250s in 1997. The F250LD "light duty" looked just like the new body style F150 except for a seven lug wheel and beefer suspension. The F250HD "heavy duty" was the old body style and was hanging around because the powerstroke and bigblock 460 didn't fit in the new body style. The 97 F350 was the old body style just like the F250HD.

1998: The F250 offered for this year is the "lightduty" type. No heavy 250 or 350.

1999: The F250LD was rebadged to the F150 "7700" (heavier GWVR than a normal F150) The introduction of the superduty line is the big deal and is a huge success with all sorts of combos of 250, 350, 450, and 550 with duallys available on the F350+ and 4x4 available for everything.

To get duallys you need at least a F350 from the factory. And I swear that the 80+ ford duallys were only available with 4x2, and to get a 4x4 you needed a single rear wheel on the F350 from the factory.

Thanks, Adrianspeeder... good info.

Looks like the '97 is the 350 dually I'm looking for. Can't quite afford the '99 models...

Ahh, you will have to search really hard for a superduty for 8k, but they are out there.
