how much to expect for an engine swap

how much should a guy expect to spend for installation of a new motor? i priced the motors themselves at jasper and they are right at 3 grand. is installation gonna run me another grand? i dont plan on replacing the motor right away, but i think i have developed a slight coolant leak from one of the gaskets and am starting to get somewhat leery, plus i plan on keeping the truck FOREVER and am sure i will need an engine swap somewhere down the line. any info is appreciated.

I saw that you had in you future mods you wanted to put on a body lift. I'm here to tell you DONT DO IT! Believe me, it's not worth the hassele, save for a suspension lift. My dumbass put a body lift so i could clear 33's Now i can't put on anything like a brush gaurd without major mods to the brackets, and theres just other little problems you're more prone to run into. A good susp is worth the extra grand. If I could take my body lift off I would.

The best suggestion I can give you is to check out some local shops and see what they charge. Ask them to see the chilton labour guide and that should tell you how many hours it should take to get the job done. Multiply that by the shop rate and include the price of antifreeze and an oil change. FWIW I have a PA 3" body lift and I am satisfiedwith it. Makes plug R&R a whole lot easier. Rear shock replacement and clutch jobes are a lot easier now too with the extra 3" of space to move around in.

Personally, I wouldn't get a Jasper motor... My parents went through 2 of them in a year. It was a 4.0 for am Aerostar. My grandfather just had the 5.0 in his crown vic replaced. The dealer said they wouldn't use a Jasper motor because they have nothing but bad luck with them.

I just a put a new motor in my '89. Engine from Jasper was $1900. Since I could only work on it during the weekends, it took me about 6 weeks start to finish. Shops in the area were quoting about $1500 for labor. The Jasper engine comes with a 3 year/75,000 mile warranty.

Good luck!
